About the convention
Profitable Growth and the Fight for Attention” As Africa’s streaming market moves past its land-grab phase, success is no longer measured by subscriber numbers alone. The 2027 summit focuses on building sustainable streaming businesses through hybrid subscription and advertising models, local content that travels, smarter use of data, and partnerships with telcos and fintechs that put streaming in front of the next 100 million African viewers.
The Content Streaming Summit – Africa 2027 returns for its 7th edition on 23-24 February 2027 in Cape Town, South Africa, convened by Broadcast Media Africa (BMA). Africa’s streaming market has moved past its land-grab phase: subscriber numbers still matter, but the conversation has shifted to churn, content costs, payment friction and, above all, profitability. At the same time, free and ad-supported viewing is reshaping the field, with YouTube on course to out-earn subscription services across Sub-Saharan Africa, broadcasters launching their own FAST channels, and telcos bundling video into data plans. Under the theme “Profitable Growth and the Fight for Attention,” the summit brings together streaming platforms, broadcasters, telcos, content owners, ad-tech firms, fintechs and investors to work through what a sustainable African streaming business looks like in 2027 and beyond. The programme puts African operators and their partners at the centre of the conversation, with frank discussion on content investment and rights, pricing for price-sensitive markets, mobile money payments, and the role of AI in recommendation, localisation and marketing.
